Wow..... way to go Rolling Stone....
==========================================
Perry Farrell Doesn’t Care What You Think of Nuno Bettencourt
We have a new favorite word here in the RS offices: Nuno. That’s right: Nuno, as in Nuno Bettencourt, former guitarist of Extreme — the extremely uncool Nineties pop-metal band best known for the ballad “More Than Words”. These days, our man Nuno has a new gig: He’s playing in Satellite Party, the latest band formed by Perry Farrell, which just signed with Columbia Records and will perform at Lollapalooza in August. The Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins told me a while back that Farrell had no idea who Nuno was when he hired him: “I guess everybody was giving Perry shit about it and he didn’t really know. He’s like, ‘I don’t know, man, I met this guy at this party and I got along with him. We’re writing some songs.’ So like, Flea and everybody are just going, ‘You dork, why are you hanging out with that guy?’ I love that Perry is so not on the same planet as everybody. He just missed that completely.” We love that too. A lot.

You said it Funkafonik.....Wow.....
especially this part is...uncool "Extreme — the extremely uncool Nineties pop-metal band "
And again...."These days, our man Nuno has a new gig: He’s playing in Satellite Party" Why don't they say DRAMAGODS is his new band?? _________________ "These walls of hate That separate on from the other. Time to rebuild bridges of love One to another" |

This from the same publication that put the same "uncool" master guitarist on its cover in the early 90's....
It's not surprising that Rolling Stone poked fun of him but I'm surprised and a bit saddened to see the quote from the dude from the Foo Fighters, a band a really like. Not much respect being shown there at all by a fellow musician. I'm really rooting for this CD to take off, I think it will be key to remaking his image and gaining the respect he deserves. |

| I thought this post deserved it's own thread so I split it from the Satellite Party thread. Great find Funkafonik. |

phew, now that's some real jerk that wrote the piece... There are way better things to do than slagging Extreme (and probably other stuff) like that. Just screw him...
now I actually do not remember him on the cover of RS. Anyone can post it? _________________ Destination still unknown

Thanks A Million for sharing this Funk!
I seriously re-read it like 3 times. Thats awesome.
Now, down to business..so Satellite Party IS PLAYING @ Lollapalooza this year? Of course i checked the Lolla site and SP isnt added yet. I want to go, and if SP does play then its automatic that i will go, but man it sucks that there is no official word out there either way.
Man im excited either way..the DG's have 3 shows, 2 in Japan and one so far @ the Key Club in July, and potentially Nuno and Fig @ Lolla. Ill take that any day!

hehe, it's the man's fest (Perry).
If he doesn't play on it it'll be really weird! Chances are big IMHO. _________________ Destination still unknown

Wow, I've always heard Nuno talking about it hard being getting a break with his newer work, when there's such a stigma hanging over him in relation to being in Extreme.
I always thought that was overplayed. Apparently not. Especially if fellow musicians are taking the piss.
I'd also like to tell that guy from the FooFighters to hold back on his insults, at least until his own band are capable of writing an album even half as good as anything Extreme ever done....
...which will never happen, so he's just a bit of a silly prick. |

I don't think Taylor explicitly bashed Nuno, even tho he may think like the RS writer. To me it seems he was more making fun of Perry... _________________ Destination still unknown

To me it sounded like RS was praising Nuno. People like to get on the band wagon of what's the "in" thing to do, like, bash, whatever.
I don't know if my earlier post in this thread was a bit cryptic but when I was responding to them not mentioning DG, and I said maybe they don't have to, I meant that if a lot of people read that article and go on line and do a search on "Nuno", they're going to find out soon enough he's alive and well and has a solid fan base with an active forum - unlike some bands/forums where the "last post" was years ago. |

I am a big fan of the Foo fighters and I am suprised Taylor said that
But I do know Extreme and Nirvana had some bad blood way back - so possible (Dave Grohl)
But as for the press printing something someone has said - I think we all know how they twist things that was said, and print only certain parts of what a certain person said to make it sound how the hell they like !!!!
Especially here in the UK - our press are a bunch of vultures - I just remember how they treated Freddie Mercury in the last few months before he died
Line all them mothers up and !!!!!!!

Actually that's not irony, it's sorta a fact, no? And if you took the time to find out what this said, you sorta proved my point!!! |

What a load of shit.
As for Taylor Hawkins and Flea, how fcuking old are these guys?!?
Grow up.
Giving Perry shit for 'hanging out with that guy (Nuno)'.... they sound like a bunch of no-life gossiping teenagers....
I hope Nuno reads this shit or hears about it, and if its true, confronts Flea and Hawkins if they ever cross paths. (Maybe even give Flea a fcuking wedgie or something hahaha ) |

| All this coming from Flea is somewhat interesting considering that in a sense he's collaborating with Nuno on the same project (Satellite Party)... |

To me Flea lost his credibility since the release of the Peppers last 2 albums. You can't collaborate with The Mars Volta and then come up with a bland insipid thing like By the way and Stadium Arcadium. What is he more interested in, good music or commercial success? For God's sake, be coherent and maintain your dignity.
So what if Flea or that Taylor whatever think Nuno's not popular enuff to be in their group? Did they ever sit and listen to his stuff? It's so kiddish... _________________ Surrender to the power of mighty Zowie. >>> |

If Perry Farrell doesn't care, and i suppose that Nuno doesn't care too.....
I JUST DON'T CARE!!! ;) |
I suppose its just wrong/childish to trash talk about people via the media..... its pretty pathetic. |

Ive got a photo of Nuno playing live with Flea and i think Perry @ someone's party i think..i only mention that because i am pretty sure Flea must be over whatever initial hesitation he had regarding Nuno being in Perry's latest band...aren't they are essentially working together in a sense on this Satellite Party record? I mean, everyone i mentioned it to has had the same "REALLY"?? type reaction. But you know what, most everyone ive told who i have exposed to Nuno have all said " That actually makes sense somehow " ...im guessing they say this because of the extremely wide range of Nuno's music. All of those different flavors add up to a guy with many, many different taste's in my opinion. That's a huge reason why i love his music so much to be honest.
As i understand it Nuno plays lot's of Bass on the disc and Flea obviously has been mentioned as the other who lends his talents to certain songs. What im trying to say is, i am of the opinion that since the debut of SP last year first @ the Key Club in L.A. then @ Lollapalooza, i have to think that most of those who were originally dumbfounded by the idea of Perry creating a band and naming Nuno Bettencourt as his creative partner have gotten used to the idea.
As far as Rolling Stone is concerned, Nuno in a band with Perry IS news, and they had not reported anything on the subject, as far as i know. I guess the band signing with Columbia really makes this Nuno/Perry pairing official in certain circles. Personally, i think the article was positive in regards to Nuno. Also, The Foo Fighters drummer guy sounded light hearted to me. Maybe i have a head injury, but he sounded cool with it.
