Just got a ticket for this show - seems like a great excuse to go to Vegas for the weekend, as far as I'm concerned...

Thanks Bambi - very enjoyable indeed! Here's my review:

The House of Blues in Vegas is inside the Mandalay Bay, and it's not even the "big" venue of that hotel. It's been 5 years or so since I've been here, and I kinda forgot how overwhelming it can be.

King's X took the stage at 8:20, and completely tore it up. No Rock Fantasy Camp, so King's X got a longer set (a full hour) and the crowd really dug 'em. Dug had everyone in the palm of his hand during the breakdown section of "Over My Head" to where we were singing the chorus and he was improvising over the top of it. My second time seeing them, and they delivered big time. And they did "Black Flag" (my favorite tune of theirs) this time, which they didn't the other time I saw 'em.

Extreme looked like they were having the time of their lives playing tonight. The venue was about 80% full but the crowd was way into it - singing along, bobbing heads, smiles everywhere, and dancing towards the end of the set. The sound was mixed quite well, and that's usually a big complaint of mine for the shows I attend, so kudos LV House 'O Blues sound guy. Here's the setlist:

Decadence Dance
Comfortably Dumb
Rest In Peace
It's A Monster
Star
Tell Me Something I Don't Know
First Album Medley
Play With Me
Midnight Express
More Than Words
Ghost
Cupid's Dead
Take Us Alive/That's Alright (Elvis Cover)
Flight of the Wounded Bumblebee
Get the Funk Out

Encore:
Am I Ever Going To Change
Hole Hearted
Mutha

A few interesting/funny moments:

*During the First album medley when they were getting ready to switch from Kid Ego to Little Girls, Nuno was nowhere near his pedalboard, so Pat had to switch sounds for him and you could see him gesturing "#2?"
to make sure he got the right patch.

*As Nuno was building up MTW, he mentioned that we'd all know it, should sing along, blah, blah, then he started playing... Laughing Stairway To Heaven.

*Cupid's Dead opened with gary singing the first verse of Sam Cooke's "Cupid". I think he usually sings a couple lines from it to open that song, but this went a bit longer and was sung over K-Fig's drum intro instead of a-capella.
*Mutha was interesting for a couple reasons. #1 It started with them doing a verse of Queen's "Now I'm Here" (and me thinking 'for the love of God, play the whole damn song already!). #2 they did the new, fast arrangement of Mutha (have they been doing it like that at all of the other shows?)
*Gary sounds awesome singing "That's Alright". Remember - I'm in Vegas, there's a whole lot of people doing Elvis impersinations around here, and he could smoke any one of 'em. They did enough of that song in "Take Us Alive" that it warrants calling it a medley this time.
*At the end of "Take Us Alive" Nuno led the band thru the ending one more time, but at a way faster tempo (like it's not fast enough already...)

Anyway - awesome, high energy show with nothing but good vibes from both bands. I'm gonna go crash.

Great crowd and the band really fed off of it. Top 2 of the six I've seen. The other one being the NYC show.

King's X is amazing. I had never heard them before the shows. I had listened to samples and what not but 30 seconds of a song just isn't enough. They made it an incredible tour and gained a fan. I can't wait to buy all their cd's and listen to all their songs!

And Nuno played the opening of King of The Ladies. It was a nice tease. I was hoping to hear the whole song live! At the Phoenix show I got to meet the band (2nd time) because I won a radio contest. I asked Pat about them playing other tracks from Saudades and he said King of The Ladies might be a single and they would play it then.

If you have a chance to say hi to the guys definitely do it! They are very friendly.

Cool show... can't wait for the next one. I won't describe it cuz beesea did a perfect review and I would just say the same thing. And Nuno was so cool to us as always, even though he was exhausted and took time to come over and talk to us and take pix ... he's a trooper!! My avatar pic is from last night.

Finally after 13 years...Where do i begin

Ok, i got to Mandalay about 4PM, decided to hang out at the casino all day hoping to run into one of the band memebers. I started off by going to the back where the buses are parked. Luckily the gate was open and i saw Gary getting out the bus, I asked him if he would sign some of my stuff, i had tickets from the 90's, posters, passes, and a "the dream' ticket stub from 84', he was completely bown away by that. He signed a few things and said that Extreme fans are really loyal and he couldn't have been nicer, a really cool person. Cool

I waited around for awhile but heard soundcheck just starting up, so i decided to bail. It was 107 degrees out and I wanted to get out of the heat for awhile. Went over to the Luxor and drank/lost money (by the way they got rid of all the cool Egyption decor and now it looks like every other ultra-lounge casino on the strip). Sad Took the tram back to Mandalay Bay and drank/won money! Very Happy By this time it was ready to hit the show.

Probably the best double bill Ive ever seen. Kings X were awesome, the new songs were really heavy, gotta pick up the new cd soon. They played for about an hour but i wished they played alot longer. Some people around me didn't know who Kings X were but by the end of the set they were new fans.

Extreme hit the stage like they always do, with a huge power chord by Nuno-and they never let up. Its been 17 years since the first time I saw them open up for David Lee Roth, and they haven't changed at all. They even look the same! The crowd was amazing, they were really into it and the band noticed it. They were exchanging smiles throughout the show. The concert went by so fast, they could have played 3 hours and nobody would have left. 'Ghost" was the song that blew me away, Nuno played really beautiful piano to Gary's powerful vocals. Gary said that Hip Today was on the setlist but was taken off by Nuno for some reason. Dance-Funk-RIP-Cupid all sounded fierce. There is nobody that puts on a better show than Extreme!!!

Meet and Great after- wanted to leave and get all my Extreme stuff for signing but HOB wouldn't let anybody back in- HOB security is the worst. Evil or Very Mad
Actually a girl did locked out and her boyfriend that was still inside told Nuno about it and Nuno went outside and brought her back in himself. It was a really cool move by Nuno, I can't say this enough: Extreme are the nicest people Ive met.

Extreme has a really good connection with their fans, Gary commented during the show that they were grateful that after 13 years they got such a wonderful reception. Come back to Vegas soon !!!

Gary, thanks for taking time for signing before the show-your the best. Very Happy

The Vegas show was awesome. King's X performed really well. But you could not compare them to extreme. This is the best I've seen extreme perform. Their energy was high, Gary was all over the place. Nuno was on. You really have to see him play the guitar in person to appreciate how talented he is.
The crowd was pumped during the whole show. Didn't get to take any pics cuz of the stupid HOB security. They took my camera as I checked in. So if anyone managed to record some songs or take some pics, please post them Smile
The ladies were going crazy for Nuno, I am part of the guilty party. But there were a bunch of them in the front that kept screaming for him. Sure he must of enjoyed that. All in all they performed well. A highlight was them performing ghost. I can't say which song was my favorite performance, they were all great...though play with me was awesome. Nuno is super fast. I just hope that they will play in vegas again soon. Everyone get their CD if you don't have it already it is unbelievable.
This was definitely the best nite of my life. Thank you Extreme for playing your music and making us happy. hope you never stop!!!

I'm so disappointed that I didn't know there was a meet-and-greet afterwards. I went outside hoping that they'd sign autographs at the merchandise table like Kings X did. After a while I assumed they weren't going to, so I left. DAMN IT!

I've only waited 18 years for the chance to see Extreme live, and I botched the chance to meet them (or at least get an autograph).

Oh well, I got to see them and it was an AMAZING show.

The boys were really on!! I saw them both at the Vegas show, and @ the H.O.B. in Dallas three nights earlier. The Dallas show was incredible, but there were some technical snaffus. Pat's rig went out when they were doing Kid Ego, and Nuno and Gary had to improvise. They didn't miss a beat.

When Nuno did "Hole Hearted" in Dallas, he said he was playing the electric cause he broke his acoustic. Well, he played the electric in Vegas, too. Sounded great!!!

Both King's X and Extreme have been huge influences for me. I saw King's X about 6 years ago, and hadn't seen Extreme. I was blown away by both bands, both shows. I can't wait to see them again!!!

And I agree, "Ghost" was pretty spectacular. I hadn't bought the new album by the time of the shows....a mistake I quickly corrected once I returned home to Dallas!

What a great show!

My wife and I came to Vegas all the way from Idaho to see this show and were completely blown away. It was worth every mile. We had seen them at the Boathouse in Norfolk, VA these long 13 years ago, and had been waiting to see them again ever since.

Good descriptions by Beesea and Tora, can't really add much to them.

One thing, though, my wife plays in several rock band and has played hundreds of shows with various lineups and struggled through all kinds of crap - including drunk band members passing out on stage. She was super impressed with KFigg and the fantastic job he did.

Also, I was surprised that the balcony was only half full. I talked with one of the waitresses, and she told me that it WAS sold out, and that she couldn't figure out where everyone was, either.

I was just reading through the postings regarding the Los Angeles show, and there seemed to be quite a bit of controversy over "Tell Me Something..." on the set list. I personally thought this song was awesome live!

King's X was also an excellent choice as the opening band. All in all, one of the best shows I've ever seen.

They're Back!

Hijacking from the LA thread Smile I thought "Tell me something" was great, but for me there were a few other standouts...

It sounds like the Vegas show was great too....we were contemplating doing to Vegas instead but have small children to consider and could not make the drive out for a couple of nights.

Wow about says it all...great summary by those before me. Sorry I didn't take the opportunity to meet you.

The show was amazing. I've been a fan since Bill & Ted's, collected all their albums as a band and the projects in between. Have tried to collect the b-sides/singles where possible, and even have a ratty vhs tape of a show from here or there. It's what you do when it's your favorite band right?!? Amazingly enough I had never seen Extreme perfom live together until Vegas. Back in the day I was a young kid enjoying the summer and their music. Not much of a concert goer though. When Punchline came out I was a in the Navy and my ship sailed the week before they played in Florida. I missed it...oh to be so close. But I could overcome, I had the new disk and a taste of home to enjoy for the months I was away on deployment. I eagerly awaited the fifth album and another chance to finally see them but then the breakup news came. Sad day it was. Not long after Nuno released and toured Schizo and I finally got to see him live at the HOB in Chicago. Great show, I had punctured my ear drum the week before the show and got sick during the show. Didn't matter running a fever and only one good ear...it was the best dang show I had ever seen. Later, TOJ was formed and all but Nuno was with them. I thought, Gary, Pat, and Mike...this is the closest I'll ever get to seeing Extreme live...bought a ticket and flew into Boston from Michigan just to see them. Great show and met a number of great friends from the board. Then a miracle happens and they get back together for a tour. As some of you will recall...I made a mess in my pants Smile LOL Holy Cow I'll have a chance to see them. Don't ask me why, but I think I was in disbelief. By now I had moved out west to UT. News of the tour came early enough but for some reason I held off buying tickets. I ordered the autographed CD and all but was still hesitant. Finally the CD came and holy crap it is real, they're back and I have a chance to see them. So I ordered up the tickets for me and my brother and made the road trip. Again still pretty aprehensive about the whole gig. Most friends that know I'm a fan like to tease. 'Wow, Extreme is back together and going to tour for you and the other 15 people on the board'. So I'm coming into the show thinking, gee I hope there is a decent turn out. My brother and I were up in balcony. Kings X came on and sounded great. First time I've heard them play, but have been familiar with them since the days Jason Kramers site. Really enjoyed seeing Figg and Pat pop into view at different times on the side stage to root on Kings X. I was a little dissappointed that the balcony was so sparsely populated but in the end it worked out because the HOB crew let me and my brother move to better seats. We were originally on the Pat side but ended up moving to the first row center balcony. Yeah that was me, the big guy with the yellow shirt yelling 'Run...Run' for the encore request and showing my praise with an 'I'm not worthy' bow at the end of their set. The show was frickin' amazing. I expected they would play the songs from the new album which I'd been trying to learn. They blew me away, did a best of set with my favorites from all their albums. Not only did I get to see the band play together live but I got to see them play songs from all the tours I had missed. Wow...Wow...more than I could have expected. The guys looked and sounded great. The crowd was smaller than I hoped but man I was so happy with them. Everyone sang along and showed the love. The encore pause was a killer...took forever...wasn't even sure they would come back...but the crowd kept it going. It was a dream show for me. Good things do come to those who wait. Wish I would have stayed around after to meet and greet. Only thing that would have made the show better was adding more songs, would have loved to see them play Run, Interface, and Peace from the new album.

To the fans I again say thanks helping me see I'm not a lone ranger and sharing the love....and to the band, thanks for giving us new music and putting on a fantastic show. You have to be one of the most underated bands of all time. Best of luck on the remainder of the tour, come back soon, and don't stop making music.
