I realize now that this show is not with King's X and / or Rock 'n' roll Fantasy Camp... I wonder if we could expect a longer set, and a different one, too... I can't wait! I hope they don't play outside... Fort Lauderdale must be too flipping hot around August! Confused

Go by yourself then... you're good enough too. I have gone to see Nuno and some other bands by myself all the time... it's a little boring sometimes standing by yourself, but seeing Extreme live is worth it. I would go with you if I lived in FL. But treat yourself and go Wink

^^I agree and have gone alone to a few shows in my life. Going to a show alone is cool too in different ways than going with others. Staying home and regretting not having gone will be worse than what you think going alone will be. I promise! You do not want to miss an Extreme show! Where do you think you're going to find other local Extreme fans (apparently lacking in your life)?

You can hang with the wife and I as well. We will be the first ones in line outside the venue. I will be wearing an old Pornograffitti shirt. The wife will probably have a Red Sox shirt. You will kick yourself later for not seeing Extreme! Check out You Tube for some great vid footage from the tour. If it doesn't get you charged up for the show, you must be dead. They have never sounded better and the guys look like they are having fun. There is even a vid where they intro'd "Ghost" with "When I First Kissed You"! Holy C**p!

^^ I was at the show where they did that. It was the NYC show! I was thinking, "They're not really going to play the whole song, are they?" And they didn't. I was glad though--I wanted to see them play the new stuff!

I'm going! I'm picking up my tickets at will call though. Tickemaster can suck my balls...

Earlier today on the Revolution's website I learned that our opening act is a local glam band called Kidd Havok http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=64256069 Reminded me a bit of early Mr. Big

I just drove into Philly (20 minutes) to get tickets at a venue for a show next week (not Extreme). Ticketmaster would have charged me $22 per ticket but I got them for $14 at the venue. Unbelievable.

Aw, thanks Ann Hugs. I'd go with you too if I lived in SoCal. And thank you Sodalita and Jersey Boy for your gestures of kindness too. I looked for a thin, black chick with a bearded dude Very Happy but didn't see ya. I also saw a dude with a III Sides shirt, but not Porno. If you guys saw a short guy that looked underage, with a blue shirt and a bad haircut, that was me.

Well, I'm already back home to fulfill my duties as the lamest Extreme fan ever. I'll be brief for now since I really should be working on a project that's due on Tuesday, lol.

The highlight of the night for me was King's X song "Pray For Me" (I think that was the name). That song kicked ass, had the whole place banging their heads! The rest of their set was OK, but that song was awesome. Like others have already said, King's X made a new fan tonight.

Extreme can't walk away the winner (yes I must make it a competition Wink) because they just played SO DAMN LOUD. I thought King's X had their amps set to 11, but Extreme somehow got up to 12, and that's not a good thing because it hurt the quality of their sound, imo. Gary's voice sounded so distorted at times, like it was fading in and out of existence.

Not only did the volume hurt the sound of the performance, I seriously felt pain at times. My ears are still ringing as I write this. "Dude, that's the sign of a sweet concert!" Fine. But Nuno should take a hint from Paul Gilbert. Or maybe I should...

The acoustic numbers were great though. And I really loved "Take Us Alive." Holy shit, Extreme made bluegrass rock! Tonight was my first time hearing it, since I still hadn't bought the CD (picked it up at the show of course). Yeah, it's not really acoustic, but Nuno used a cleaner tone to play that one and it was really rocking and fun!

So overall it was a good show, marred only by the extremely high volume. Oh yeah, and having to stand for 4 hours. Thank you all for talking me out of skipping the show. Yeah, like I was really gonna miss it Wink. Gary said they'd be back soon though, but I hear that's what he's saying at the end of every show.

Sorry to hear the volume spoiled it for you a little bit.

Seriously guys n girls, ear plugs are a MUST when seeing extreme play live unless you want significant and lasting hearing damage.

You'll be amazed at the difference that ear plugs make to the quality of the sound. When things are that loud, the unprotected ear and brain can't process the sound correctly and you end up with distortion, clipping, pain and a shit sound.

Ear plugs will clean everything up for you and bring the sound pressure down to a level where you can actually experience the music. It'll still be fucking loud and your body will still experience the full thumping power of the performance but you'll hear the music with far more clarity and at the end of the night you'll still be able to hear.

As music lovers and musicians our ears are our most priceless and irreplaceable instruments. Protect them.

Here's the setlists as best I can remember it.

King's X

Alright
Roketship
Black Flag
Dogman
Pray
Move
We Were Born To Be Loved
Go Tell Somebody
Looking For Love
Over My Head

Extreme

Comfortably Dumb
Decadence Dance
Rest In Peace
Warheads
Star
Tell Me Something I Don't Know
Medley (Kid Ego/Little Girls/Teacher's Pet)
Play With Me
Midnight Express
More Than Words
Ghost
Cupid's Dead
Take Us Alive
Flight of the Wounded Bumblebee
Get the Funk Out
Am I Ever Gonna' Change
Hole Hearted

All in all a great show. Forgot my earplugs and my ears are STILL ringing.
King's X was excellent as usual and my buddy is now a fan. .

Extreme was fantastic. They were totally into the show, feeding off the crowd.
If you're on the fence about going, get your tickets now. You will not be disappointed.
By the way, Kevin was sick. Couldn't tell it at all. He's a very good player and a worthy
addition.

What can I say? It's been thirteen years and considering I never thought I'd ever get to see them again,
I couldn't be happier.

Amen! I've been wearing them to shows for years and years. All of the older members of my dad's family (my grandmother, Pop and all his siblings) had serious hearing loss as they aged. I figure that genetics are already working against me, so I don't want to hasten the process. Confused I tried to listen to More Than Words without the ear plugs this time around, but even that was too loud, so I popped them back in.

Learn from Pete Townsend, peeps. Protect your hearing!

Glad you had fun! Sorry to hear Kevin was sick. Whatever Gary had must be making it's way around the band. Crying or Very sad Hope he's feeling better.

Harrboy,

Your Extreme set list is correct. Couldn't speak on the King's X list though it looks right. Not really that familar with their stuff but I will now check it out. Extreme rocked! They were totally sincere with the thanks they gave to the fans during and after the show for sticking with them.

Bambi,

This was the greatest weekend ever for me as well. New album on Tuesday and front row on Saturday. Met Gary and chatted before the show. Nuno reached down and gave me his beer bottle during the performance and after the show, signed my N4 guitar. I can die a happy man. Looking forward to the next show that we can make.

My wife and I met so many cool people at the show as well. Hopefully we will keep in touch.

Agreed. I had a friend who lost a good amount of his hearing in his TEENS and can't go to shows anymore. These were mostly club shows that damaged his hearing. The close proximity to the speakers is what does it. That and a lot of club sound engineers don't know jack. I've been to a lot of shows where the band complained of the distortion in their monitors. But back to earplugs, get yourself some Vater plugs in the drum section at your local Guitar Center or music store. Those things do wonders and are less than $20. Unlike regular plugs that block out certain frequencies, the Vaters minimize the entire sound without changing the way your hear the mix. I was very impressed won't go to a club show without them now.

I have tinnitus. I discovered this when I saw a YouTube video on it and realized that not everyone hears ringing in their ears. Apparently I've had it almost all of my life. A hearing specialist confirmed this and said it could have been caused by a high fever as a child. I do remember that my ears used to ring after concerts when I was a kid too but nowadays they don't. So, I could have gotten the damage at shows but all I can say is that I don't ever remember my ears not ringing and it was a surprise to find out that the rest of the world didn't have a slight ringing in their ears all the time. Previously, I thought the ringing I heard was like the "floaters" we all have in our eyes--something everyone has but most people are able to ignore. I glad the tinnitus doesn't bother me much because I've since found out it's very troublesome to some people. The only thing that bothers me is complete silence--so as long as there is some ambient sound, I don't notice it. I will definitely look into those earplugs though. I don't have any hearing loss.

So after the awesome show in Orlando, Patrick and I, with our friends from Carolina, went back to the hotel around 1am... we were headed to Ft. Lauderdale at 11, arrived there around 4. Crossed paths with Gary, Pat and Kevin on their way to the soundcheck. They looked rested and had smiles for us. Kevin gave us his elbow, instead of hand, as he thought he could be getting a cold.

We checked in and relaxed a bit, then had dinner and drove to The Revolution, in downtown. A bit smaller than the Orlando HOB, it looked like the premier joint for glam and / or heavy rock, judging by the crowd, very different than the one the night before.

There was a local band playing when we entered, Kidd Havoc. Then King's X, which, it seems to me, had a much larger fan base there.

I don't know why Extreme ended up entering the stage around 10:20pm, quite late! I think some of the kids did leave after King's X. Of course I was again up front, center to the right.

Again another great show, maybe not as energetic or as warmly received by the audience, compared to Orlando, but still very enthusiastic.

They did not play Slide or Mutha, and switched from It is a monster to Warheads, which was ass kicking. Right before MTW, someone in the audience yells "Free bird!" and Nuno starts it, just to tease. They were in a very playful mode.

I was not jumping and dancing as much towards the end, starting to take the toll from the night before... not them, tho! They were tearing the place up, specially during Take us alive, closing with Get the funk out, before the encore with Am I ever and Hole Hearted, a song that showcases KFig's rhythm and clearly shows his joy to be now a part of Extreme. Gary's voice still very powerful but I think the sound was a bit too muddy and generally too loud. I did not get the "ringing in my ears", but I talked to quite a few fellow fans who did. Patrick's bass sound was pretty high, but I am not complaining...

Again the fan meet and greet marathon waited for them outside... I know it was past 2am when they were finally gone because at 2 we were stuck in downtown, traffic completelly stopped by a... train!!!

Paulo Bettencourt was with them, and another sibling, Teresa, was in the audience the night before in Orlando (Nuno dedicated MTW to her).

I regret I did not buy me a tshirt, because I am afraid it will take a while for the online store to open...

Got to meet Steve, who also posts here, in Orlando and also in Lauderdale... King Koopa, I was the chick beside him, the guy with the WFTP shirt! Shame I did not see you there. Very glad you made it, though.

And my adventure is now over... I am thinking about catching them in New York, but not sure I can do this. I do hope they will have a secong leg here in US. I am ready for more!!

Awesome Marcia, glad you had a great time! Although I'm secretly happy that the reception was better in Orlando than Ft. Laud (OK I should have gone down to help with that, lol!) but hopefully that means Orlando will be checked off on the permanent tour list next time Very Happy I think they really had a great turnout here and the venue really suited them.

I am having major Extreme withdrawals now too! They can't come back to FL fast enough!!! Very Happy
