Any idea how long extreme would play, whether they are opening or closing? I'll have to drive 6 hours to see them and I don't want to do that if their setlist is less than 2 hours (I am a big fan but unfortunately practicality is a pain in the Sad )

Thanks!

Extreme will go on first but it's a co-headlining show so the should have equal set time. I don't know how long the set will be though.

I'll be driving to LA for this show! I bought tickets today! If there's anyone else on the forum who'd be going to this show and would like to meet up, holler!

Bambi/all, any idea if they'll be out after their gig (since they play first) for meets/greets/autographs/photos? Smile

I am from Boston and on a businees trip in California, and will be spending the weekend in LA. Just bought a ticket for the show. Saw them a few years back in bean town during their reunion tour (freakin awesome). Got a GA ticket if any one wants to meet up, shoot me an email mail. I actually got a cool (well to me anyways) story of meeting Gary Cherone with his old band Tribe of Judah.

FYI: A shitload of posters from the Metal Sludge* message board will be at these two L.A. area shows. Make sure you show them why Extreme fans are the greatest!

*They are notoriously negative about Extreme.

Okay..... holy poop.......

They closed the show by bringing out Sheila E. and playing "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" by Michael Jackson. SHEILA FRICKIN' E.!!!!!!

That is full of win.

Nuno started playing the riff to the song and the wife and I looked at each other like, "Okay, I'll bite". Then they brought the timbales out on stage and my heart went all pitty pat. How many other people could it have been?? Great musician, but I also hard a pretty hardcore crush on her when I was in junior high and high school, so I was stoked.

She looked and sounded awesome (she's 51 years old, let's remember), the band grooved as hard as ever..... unquestionably the coolest special guest spot I've ever seen in 20-odd years of going to concerts. Worth the price of admission just to see that. Only thing that might have made it better would have been if they also played "Love Bizarre".

Didn't keep track of the set list, but they opened with the 'rain' from Porno and straight into "Decadence". Other songs I remember (in no order) "Rest In Peace", "Am I Ever Gonna Change", "Get The Funk Out", "Slide", "Play With Me", "Take Us Alive", "Midnight Express", "MTW" (with "Stairway" false start), "GTFO" (with a funny 'snafu' where Nuno went from "Bumblebee" right into "He-Man" even after K-Fig did the drum intro to "GTFO". The band stopped, Pat kindly pointed to the set list on the stage in front of Nuno and normal service was resumed), "Hole Hearted", and then the kick ass finale. They played about 1 hour, so sort of a mini-headline set.

FWIW, the venue is excellent, but up in the balcony the sound was atrocious. It sounded like the band was playing inside a gymnasium through a megaphone. Just so flippin' boomy it wasn't even funny. Ratt came out and played at a much much much lower FOH volume (maybe as a result of the boardie getting complaints?) and the sound quality was better, altho the overall mix was worse. Eh, it's a moving target, I guess. Looking forward to HOB tomorrow night in Anaheim, as I know it's pretty hard fo eff up the sound in those places.

As a further aside, I was thoroughly underwhelmed by Ratt. Took them four or five songs to even seem like they were playing in front of an audience, Stephen Peacy has the stage charisma of a leprous donkey, and Carlos Cavazo needs to understand that he's not the main guitar draw in the band. Warren "Torch" DeMartini, on the other had, was - as always - worth watching. Still amazes me how little respect that guy generally gets from a historical perspective. Awesome slinger, weak band. It's like DeMartini, Blotzer and three other dudes. All that said, they played through "Out of the Cellar" in its entirety and my wife I were quite happily rocked. (I should confess she started fading about 3/4 of the way through their set, so we left early.) Other highlights were "Lay It Down", "Way Cool Jr." and "You're In Love". Admittedly it was a bit hard to get into the vibe of the show from the balcony (which was only about 40% full), so maybe from the floor the show will be better in Anaheim on Sunday.

The first band, Swirl, was a mess. Let me take that back.... the signer for the first band was a mess. The guitar player (who I think was Demarcus Ware from the Dallas Cowboys; that's how big the dude was) and drummer was good and drummer was a monster. Bass player was adequate. But the singer.... wooof.

Thanks for the review, tifosi! Seeing Sheila E must've been awesome. Always respected her, and it's cool that she's still out and about. Any photos or video???

I was there! Right in front of Nuno the whole show. THEY KILLED!!!!

They played "Slide" which was a surprise to me, but didn't play "Star" or "Ghost". Bummer!

The whole band was firing on all cylinders. Gary Cherone is singing better than he ever has. What a great frontman. The guy gives it all and looks like he's having fun doing it. In fact, the whole band looks like they're having fun.

The Michael Jackson song was a total homerun!!! WOW! Shelia E. looked amazing, but you could tell she was nervous. It took at least a minute for her to really find the groove. There was short guy filming it via his phone. I hope he posts some footage.

I got stuck in traffic and arrived late yesterday. I was a bit bummed because after I parked my car, I could already hear "Rest in peace" blasting from inside. I ran in and caught the remainder of their set. I think I only missed decadence dance and RIP from the sounds of it. From up front the sound was excellent. Nuno's guitar was crystal clear, although Gary's vocals at times could have been a tad louder. As a whole, the mix sounded great. They put on a great show and looked like they were having a lot of fun up there. Nuno was joking with the crowd. It was a treat to get the intro of He-man in there after bumblebee. Other highlights for me were slide and wanna be starting something at the end. The performance was flawless with a lot of energy. I thought the set could have been a bit longer, still I'm not complaining, I'm very glad these guys are playing together again.

After they left the stage, I hung around to check out Ratt. I wasn't a big fan but was familiar with some of their material and Way Cool Jr is a classic. They were underwhelming to say the least. I was in the same location as I was in during Extreme but Ratt sounded very muddy by comparison. The drums and bass cut through, but I had difficult hearing the guitars. Having 2 guitar players probably didn't help, but even during the solos, the guitars were hard to hear. This is pure speculation on my part, but it also seemed like some of these guys didn't want to be on stage with each other, at least that's the impression I got. I don't think Pearcy and DeMartini looked at each other the whole time I was there.

I left after about 5 or 6 Ratt songs with a slightly bad feeling. I couldn't believe Extreme weren't headlining. Hopefully the guys will get some of the exposure they deserve from it.
