So I'm considering making the trek up to Syracuse (from NJ) for this show. Was looking at the NY State Fair website, and it seems that this is a FREE show---at both 4:00 and 8:00 PM. Am I reading this correctly? (See bottom of pg 3.) http://www.nysfair.org/assets/pdfs/NYS_08_Schedule8-30.pdf
I don't know if I can take the excitement of 2 shows in 1 day...but I'm damn sure gonna give it a shot. |

| Cool, T; keep me posted, and I'll do the same. Maybe we can meet up. It's quite a hike, but for two free shows, definitely worth it. Are you familiar at all with that area? The NY State Fair site has a few hotel recommendations that I'll check out; I have nothing else to go by. |

Are you serious?!?!?! Hell, yeah!!!
I gave it some serious thought. But I'm taking the weekend before that off to go visit my mom (it's the weekend between my dad's birthday and the first anniversary of his death), so there's no way my three-headed troll beyotch of a supervisor would give me the very next weekend off, too.
After my two shows, I'm soooo jonesing for a proper road trip... Go for me, Bambi! Go for me!!! |

Um, are they really playing this thing? Reading that schedule of events, that's a bit embarrassing.

I think it's cool of them... a show like this will give them lots of exposure to people who normally might not know about them!
Now how am I gonna convince my husband that I NEED to go?? _________________ Can't stop a broken heart from bleeding

Why is it embarassing? I am sad that you feel that way about it.
It's summer, which means festival season!
It is very common in Ontario for different festivals to offer shows free or at a minimal cost - they pay the band - so who cares? There are usually good crowds. My opinion is that it is cool - sometimes you get so see bands you wouldn't normally see.
For those of you making the road trip - good for you! |

Hey Guys!
I'm originally from Syracuse, and can tell you that the NY State Fair is HUGE, with something close to 90,000 people per day in attendance. Extreme will be playing on a large outdoor stage with a big lawn and vendor and exhibits all around, so not only will those desiring to see the show catch it, but so will thousands of unsuspecting people who come by!
This, while seeming to be "beneath them", will give the band a chance to reach a huge demographic of people who might only know MTW. I will look forward to seeing them blow away people with the talent and style that we all know they have, and many people may not.
This will be great! |

I imagine people will hear it and flock to the stage to see what Extreme are all about then of course, Cd's will sell... people will talk and there will be more new Extreme fans on the planet! _________________ Can't stop a broken heart from bleeding

JohnPav, is this the kind of set-up where you can basically go in, grab your space and come and go during the day--as long as someone is minding your space?
I'm scheming, trying to figure out a way to get there. Two shows in one day? That's my idea of heaven!!! I'm thinking that if I can talk one or both of my younger nieces into going... Well, then I could tell the evil three-headed troll beyotch supervisor that "a family thing" came up (without lying!!!) and I have to be out of town for the weekend... The main problem is that relief staff are in short supply, and two of my three housemates (I'm live-in staff at a group home for people who have both a cognitive disability and a mental health diagnosis) have been really horrible the last couple of times that relief staff have been here, so the company is running out of people who are willing to work in this house.
I'm going to keep scheming... I'm spending next Tuesday with my nieces, for my youngest niece's birthday. I'm going to do some serious propaganda work. "Remember how much you love Extreme? Remember how much fun we had in Boston in 2006? Here! Listen to the new CD!!!" Hmm.... |

Seriously, did you read that PDF file of the schedule of events linked earlier in this thread?
When you are on the bill with Thomas the Tank Engine, racing pigs and monkeys, a lumberjack show, and "The Magic of Virgil," ...... well, I think it's time to start questioning some things. The guy from Syracuse seems encouraging, but no one is going to mistake this "festival" with Lollapolloza. |
